American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh confirmed that the United States was responsible for the bombing of the Russian gas pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 in the Baltic Sea in September last year.

In an investigation he conducted, the journalist explained that the bombing was part of a secret operation ordered by the White House and carried out by the CIA, where American divers used NATO military exercises in the region under the name “Baltic Operations 22” as a cover, and planted mines along the coast. Russian pipelines, and later remotely blew them up.

Hersh pointed out that US President Joe Biden's decision to blow up Russian pipelines came after more than 9 months of secret planning with the US national security agencies, noting that throughout that time it was not about whether that task should be done, but rather about ways to accomplish it. without leaving evidence indicating the party responsible for it.

Hersh confirmed that the decision to blow up the pipeline, which was closed at the time, but contained quantities of gas, was secretly taken by Biden, to prevent Moscow from reaping billions of dollars from the proceeds of gas sales to Europe.

Hersh said in the investigation: The United States saw that the Nord Stream pipelines give Russia political influence over Germany and Western Europe, which could lead to a weakening of its commitment to Ukraine.

In Biden's public statement, two weeks before the Russian operation on February 24, 2022, Hersh stated that the United States would not allow the operation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline if Russia carried out its operation against Ukraine.

Hersh pointed out that the idea of the bombing first appeared in December 2021, during discussions between Biden's senior national security advisers about how to respond to the expected Russian operation, and later the CIA developed the plan and planted explosives under cover of NATO maneuvers with the help of Norway.

The explosion, which took place on September 26, 2022, severely damaged the two gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea that transport Russian gas to Europe.
