The authorities in South Florida announced this Thursday the arrival of a boat with more than 100 immigrants to US territory.

The head of the Border Patrol's Miami sector, Walter N. Slosar, announced via Twitter that the landing occurred in Tavernier, a town in Monroe County located about 120 kilometers from Miami.

Slosar added that they found 114 people from Haiti at the scene, who are undergoing medical check-ups and will be processed at a local Border Patrol station.

He also reported that law enforcement and first responders arrived in the area to provide assistance.

For its part, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office told CNN that it was alerted to the situation and that they are assisting federal authorities, providing additional resources including medical assistance and perimeter security.

This landing is added to others that have occurred in recent months.

On Wednesday, for example, Slosar announced that 26 immigrants of Cuban origin had been taken into Border Patrol custody after making landfall on Cayos Marquesas, an uninhabited island west of Key Largo.

The authorities assure that, since December, the increase in the number of rafters trying to enter the United States has been significant, to the point that in just four months they are close to exceeding the number of immigrants who arrived in the entire last fiscal year.

According to the United States Coast Guard, between January 27 and February 3, more than 100 migrants were rescued, while 66 Cubans and 309 Haitians were repatriated.
