Movies

Tar the winner

In one of the biggest performances of her career, the phenomenal Cate Blanchett plays a composer who becomes the first woman to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic.

Although she leads a seemingly normal relationship and family life, beneath the surface dark secrets are revealed that threaten her achievements.

Director-screenwriter Todd Field's film ("Little Children" and "In the Bedroom") is one of the most notable of the last year, and it's no wonder that it received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Blanchett, who may win her third Oscar.

Magic Mike: Last Dance

The blockbuster series, starring Channing Tatum as the hot stripper Mike, returns for a third film directed by the legendary Oscar-winning Steven Soderbergh (who directed the first film and many other classics).

After a long hiatus, Mike finds himself back on stage following a failed deal that left him struggling as a bartender in Florida.

A rich businesswoman (played by Salma Hayek) offers him to stage his own strip show in a theater in London - but his new journey is not going to be so simple.

Uh-uh

The new film of the veteran Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski was applauded by the audience at the last Cannes Film Festival, where he won the Jury Prize.

Since then it has won many more awards, and even received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best International Film.

All the commotion stems from the story of Hamour, through whose point of view we are exposed to all that is evil in humanity and the injustices done to animals and persecuted communities in Europe, including the Jews, and also to human nature.

Skolimovski's cinematic expression proves that he is a director with supreme grace, who manages to find the good even in the darkest situations.

More than I deserve

Finney Tabgar, known as an actor and presenter ("Our Song", "Asfor"), ascends to the director's throne for the first time in a film based on his childhood memories.

The film follows Tamara (Anna Dobrovitsky), an immigrant from Ukraine and a single mother, who does not allow her son (Micah Prodovsky) to study in preparation for his ascension to the Torah.

The two's Chabadnik neighbor (Yaakov Zeda Daniel) agrees to teach him, and a courageous bond develops between the two.

The film was nominated for six Ophir Awards, and even won Tabgar the Outstanding Screenplay Award at the Jerusalem Festival.

A world view with Philomena Conk

The BBC's intriguing collaboration with Netflix has given birth to a mockumentary series, centered on an investigative journalist lacking any basic knowledge who is sent to interview academics, scientists and more about the development of the human race in the most stupid way possible.

Thanks to the excellent script, the serious answers of the interviewees and the wonderful character played by the actress Diane Morgan, who simply bursts with laughter in her stupidity, the five episodes of the series have easily become one of the best things on the screen today.

Third person

One of the most talked about Israeli dramas of the period follows a couple (Rotem Sela and Yehuda Levy), who after dozens of failed fertility treatments decide to turn to what they see as the last option to become parents - a surrogacy process.

The relationship that develops between them and the surrogate (Gal Malka), a single mother of a 10-year-old boy, will undermine the picture.

Itai Turgeman and Lior Raz also star in the series.

connected

When the docu-reality series burst into our lives in 2009 as "Connected", no one expected it to be such a huge success, bringing it into its decade season.

This time, too, the participants will document themselves for several months and present a much more personal and intimate side of their private lives, as we have not seen from them before.

The new season will feature the actress Orna Banai, the judoka winner of two Olympic medals Uri Sasson, the musician Keren Pels, the fashion designer and TV presenter Miki Boganim, the radio broadcaster Hadar Marx and the model Yael Shelvia.

elite forces

The elite unit of the IDF, one of the best commando units in the world, is at the center of the new documentary series by Omri Essenheim, which will try to understand what exactly is in it, so that among its servants are some of the most important figures in Israel, including prime ministers and the entire current top brass. More than 50 Interviewees participate in the series, in which exclusive archival materials and fascinating reconstructions are presented, which describe how the history of the unit corresponded with the history of the country.

Dan Thorn and Dodi Levy in a joint show

After years of working together under the radar, the two esteemed creators recently released "In this tune", a song that Toran and Levy recorded following their joint tour, "Together and Together".

On stage, with each other and solo, the two tell the stories behind their songs, while having amusing conversations between themselves - and with the audience.

David Broza celebrates the 40th anniversary of "The Woman With Me"

The beloved musician is celebrating another decade of one of the most influential and successful albums ever released in Israel, a moment after releasing it in a re-recording - in Spanish.

Broza's special and unusual sound contributed to his success overseas, and to the fact that he is still very popular after all these years.

As part of the festive show, he will perform hits from that album (including the theme song and "Violets"), as well as from the many other hits that accompany him throughout his long career.

Paramore - This Is Why

Almost six years since the release of the previous album of the American rock band, it returns with its sixth and anticipated album.

The vocalist Hayley Williams no longer needs to prove her huge talent to anyone, and based on the two songs released so far from it, it seems that the album will return the band to the punk regions from which it was influenced.

Carlos de la Garza, who previously worked with Wolf Alice, M83 and Jimmy It World, took the production reins into his hands, and it sounds like his connection with this trio is about to give a head.

Daniel Stiopin in a comedy show

Although the actor and comedian is mostly known as the one who plays the character of Anatoly from "Kopa Main", but in his show he proves to all the skeptics that there is much more to him than that beloved butt.

Styofin, who wrote the special show with Daniel Selgnik, shares with the audience his childhood journey in Ukraine until his immigration to Israel and his dealings with success, as well as the feelings and anxieties that accompany him, as they accompany each and every one of us.

Michael - Winter Remembrance

Perhaps this time the actors of the legendary cult show, which was even given a particularly successful television adaptation, will be able to finally and completely say goodbye to Michael.

The show, which began as part of Avi Dangor's graduation project, has long since become a huge phenomenon and a success that has appeared on various stages throughout Israel more than 600 times.

The upcoming show will be the Winter Memorial Show for Michael, so just don't forget to bring refreshments.

A guide for travelers in Warsaw

Veteran actress and Israel Prize winner Lea Koenig is coming full circle, after she will return to star in Hillel Mittelpunkt's presentation, in which she starred in a previous adaptation from 1999.

In this comedy, Koenig plays Marga, who arrives in the Polish capital together with her failed painter son Yosef (Tomer Sharon) to claim ownership of a building that belonged to her family until World War II.

The uneasy relationship between them affects Yosef's acquaintance with an Israeli woman, who came to Medina to fulfill her late father's life's work.

Three new comics exhibitions

The first exhibition is "The Year That Was 2022", where the works of 40 Israeli cartoonists are presented who present some of the most prominent events from last year (such as the elections and the war in Ukraine) from an original and surprising angle.

The second exhibition is "She and He - He And Who" by Yuval Robichak, whose works combine graphic humor alongside reflections on the human soul, relationships and a host of conflicts.

The third is "Kol Tov Ha'aretz", where the works of the veteran cartoonist Yaakov "Zev" Parkash meet with those of Yonatan Waxman, which present different and surprising interpretations of historical events.
