Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, received, this afternoon, Tariq Al-Talahmeh, Deputy Under-Secretary-General for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCH) and the accompanying delegation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic mobilized from the first moments of the natural disaster, and took all emergency measures at the highest levels to identify the areas most affected by the earthquake, secure the urgent health and food needs of those affected, and remove the rubble and recover the victims.
He stressed that Syria will provide all support and facilities to deliver aid to all Syrian citizens throughout Syria, calling on the United Nations organizations to make more efforts to respond urgently to the needs of those affected.
Minister Al-Miqdad added: Western politicization of humanitarian aid is unacceptable, pointing out that the negative effects of inhumane unilateral economic sanctions make many countries hesitate to provide this assistance.
For his part, the Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Coordination expressed his deepest condolences to the earthquake victims, and conveyed the condolences of Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator.
He also thanked the Syrian government for all the facilities provided to speed up the arrival of aid and relief teams to the affected areas.
Al-Talahama referred to the efforts made by the international side to mobilize the necessary funding and support to mitigate the humanitarian effects of this earthquake.
The meeting was attended by Qusai Al-Dahhak, Director of the International Organizations and Conferences Department, and Crispin Rokacha, Director of the OCH Office in Syria.
