The extent of the earthquake disaster is gradually becoming clear – at least in Turkey. The Turkish civil protection alone reports 17,134 fatalities. More than 3,000 deaths have been reported from Syria so far.

The death toll after the earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border area has risen to more than 20,000.
As the state news agency Anadolu reported, citing the Turkish civil protection authority Afad, the number for Turkey alone is now 17,134.
3,317 deaths were recently reported from Syria.
