The death toll after the earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border area has risen to more than 20,000.
As the state news agency Anadolu reported, citing the Turkish civil protection authority Afad, the number for Turkey alone is now 17,134.
In Turkey, the extent of the catastrophe is gradually becoming apparent.
The number of victims is also increasing as the salvage work progresses.
3,317 deaths were recently reported from Syria.
The situation in the northwest of the country was already precarious before the earthquake, and it is difficult to reach the earthquake victims there.
The federal government is working to improve the care of the people in northern Syria, which is difficult to reach.
The problem is that the "regime" has not recently allowed any humanitarian aid into the country, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) told WDR.
