Lithuania and Latvia are preparing the area for the wave of Jewish tourism that spring will bring • Attraction factors: the local Torah world

While the winter in Europe is still raging, the preparation for the coming of spring and the arrival of thousands of tourists to the various countries is already in full swing.

The main activity - tzadikim tours, which are organized for the benefit of the traditionalists.

Precisely at a time when the polarization between the religious and secular worlds in Israel seems to be at its peak, and when calls for confiscation are heard from all sides, the various countries show a strong desire for the arrival of Jews to the heritage sites in their domain.

In the Baltic countries, many resources have recently been invested in preserving the Jewish history that flourished in the region before the Holocaust, through the preservation of community buildings, synagogues and cemeteries.

The flow of tourists to Ukraine almost stopped following the war, with the exception of the visit of Jews to the city of Oman

In Lithuania and Latvia, Jewish communities flourished for centuries under several foreign governments, such as in the city of Vilnius in Lithuania and the cities of Riga and Kaunas in Latvia.

From there came, among others, personalities such as the Gaon of Vilna, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook and the Rebmor HaRaitz of Chabad.

Now the two countries are launching a series of Jewish heritage tours in Lithuania and Latvia.

At the event that took place yesterday, with the participation of a representative of the Lithuanian Embassy, its economic attaché and a representative of its Chamber of Commerce in Israel, two main routes for Jewish tourism in the region were presented: one following the Torah world in Lithuania, and the other following the path of Rabbi Kook.

At the same time, in recent days visits were made by the Hungarian Minister of Religion Miklos Schultz, together with his deputy and Chief Rabbi of Hungary Shlomo Kobus, to the Rebbe of Belza and to Israel's Chief Rabbi David Lau.

In both visits, the Hungarian minister stated his desire to develop the grave complex of R. Isaiah of Krestyre, and to improve access to the area for the public who often visit the place in recent years.

Rabbi Kook,

The rabbi, who died in 1925, helped the needy a lot and became famous for his unique virtue - keeping mice away.

Therefore, in many houses it is customary to hang his picture even today.

The Rebbe of Belza welcomed the fruitful cooperation between the government and the Jewish communities in the country.

In the neighboring Ukraine, a war has been raging for about a year, so the flow of tourists to the place has almost stopped, with the exception of the visit of Jews to the city of Oman.

However, the Federation of Jewish Communities in the country is not waiting, and is currently engaged in an extensive renovation of the synagogue "of the cobblers and tailors" in the city of Berdichev - where one of the most important rabbis of recent centuries, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berdichev, resides - in order to be ready for the coming of the Jews after the war
