(CNN) --

Ghanaian soccer star Christian Atsu's agent said Thursday that the player's whereabouts were still unknown, denying reports from days ago when he told CNN that the Hatayspor winger had been rescued from the rubble of a collapsed building after the earthquake that hit southern Turkey.

"I am currently in Istanbul. The situation remains the same, Christian Atsu has not been found yet. Unless I see Christian or talk to him, I have no further updates," Nana Sechere said on social media on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Sechere tweeted that he had been rescued, contrary to earlier reports that Atsu was still missing.

"Following yesterday's (Tuesday) update from the club that Christian had been taken out alive, we have yet to confirm Christian's whereabouts. As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian," he said.

Sechere had originally told CNN on Tuesday that he had "official confirmation" from Hatayspor that Atsu "was in hospital and in stable condition."

In a WhatsApp message to CNN on Thursday, Sechere said that "all the updates I have provided come from my communications with the club, the British Consulate in Istanbul, the Ghanaian Consulate, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish Football Federation".

"I still can't locate Christian. All my efforts are in finding him," he said.

Adding to the uncertainty, Ankara-based Ghanaian ambassador to Turkey Francisca Ashietey-Odunton told CNN on Thursday that her office is unsure of the 31-year-old's whereabouts and that efforts are underway to find him.

“On Tuesday, the [Turkish] Ministry of Foreign Affairs here informed me that they wanted to confirm whether Christian Atsu had been found and rescued, and sent to a medical center.

However, in all the confusion, which is understandable given the circumstances, they are still not sure which particular hospital or health center they have sent him to,” Ashietey-Odunton said.

“On Wednesday again, the Foreign Ministry assured me that they are working hard to find out which facility they sent him to and they will get back to me as soon as possible because I have told them I need to go see him,” he added.

CNN contacted the Ghana FA and Hatayspor again on Thursday for more information.
