The Chief Executive, Mr Lee Ka-chao, continued his visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday (February 8, Abu Dhabi time), inspecting local industrial facilities and logistics groups, and transferred to Dubai in the afternoon to start his visit.


In the evening, Li Jiachao met with Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the UAE Ministry of Economy.

During the meeting, Li Jiachao said that UAE companies and investors have unlimited opportunities in Hong Kong, ranging from new energy and traditional energy, to smart cities, transportation, logistics, financial technology and biotechnology. He looks forward to further exploration of the "Belt and Road" initiative cooperation opportunities below.


Later, Li Jiachao attended the Hong Kong-UAE Business Forum and Chinese New Year Dinner jointly organized by the UAE Ministry of Economy, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai.

Li Jiachao delivered a speech at the forum, introducing Hong Kong's unique advantages and investment opportunities to about 300 local government representatives and business leaders.


In the morning, Li Jiachao led a government delegation to inspect the China-Arabia (United Arab Emirates) Production Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park located in Khalifa Industrial Zone, Abu Dhabi, and met with Song Qinbo, Chairman of China Jiangsu International Economic and Technological Cooperation Group Co., Ltd. (Zhongjiang International Group) .

The demonstration park is a major cooperation project between China and the United Arab Emirates to jointly build the "Belt and Road". Jiangsu Overseas Cooperation and Investment Co., Ltd., jointly established by Zhongjiang International Group and four national development zones, is responsible for the development and operation.

Li Jiachao said that the demonstration park is a successful example of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" between the country and the UAE, demonstrating the great potential and significance of the "Belt and Road" cooperation.

He encouraged Hong Kong enterprises to use overseas economic and trade cooperation zones as an entry point to expand business opportunities in countries related to the "Belt and Road".

For Hong Kong companies intending to expand their business in the Middle East, the operation model and experience of this demonstration park are of great reference and learning value.

During the inspection, Li Jiachao also communicated with the workers who came to work in this demonstration park from the Mainland to learn about their work and living conditions.

Li Jiachao and his party then visited the Abu Dhabi Port Authority and attended a luncheon to understand the development of the local logistics industry.

Li Jiachao is pleased to learn that the group has a deep cooperative relationship and close business contacts with shipping companies in Hong Kong. He believes that Hong Kong, as an international shipping center, can cooperate with companies from the UAE and the Middle East, and use Hong Kong as a springboard to jointly grasp the "Belt and Road" Construction and unlimited development opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Hong Kong hopes to further deepen cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, especially in the development of green and sustainable finance. The two governments have already started discussions on signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

Later, Li Jiachao and Abdul-Aziz Abdulla Al Ghurair, chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, witnessed the exchange of three memorandums of cooperation between Hong Kong and UAE companies or institutions to strengthen professional cooperation in construction, cooperation in innovation and technology, and business exchanges between the two places.

Hong Kong Professional Chinese Music Orchestra Bamboo Rhythm Xiaoji performed at the dinner.

A number of outstanding Hong Kong musicians performed a number of jazz pieces with Chinese and Western instruments, presenting Hong Kong's fusion of East and West and its rich artistic culture to the guests.
