After a consecration World Cup, Lionel Scaloni could get The Best award for best coach.
The DT of the Argentine National Team was in the final list along with Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid).
This Thursday, through its social networks, FIFA confirmed that the coach from Santa Fe, who
only lost one of the last 43 games
with the Albiceleste, was among the finalists.
"
Scaloni's calm and authoritative leadership
helped his team bounce back quickly from a shock opening game loss to Saudi Arabia. Wins over Mexico and Poland sealed a place in the Round of 16 and La Albiceleste continued to grow in stature and confidence as the tournament progressed," the statement said.
In addition, FIFA highlighted that during the World Cup "Scaloni successfully harnessed the emotional energy of the frenetic Argentine fans in Qatar,
helping to strengthen the connection between fans and players
."
"His galvanized team topped Australia, the Netherlands and Croatia en route to the final, combining world-class quality with steel, passion and a fierce will to win. Defending champions France stood in the way of sporting immortality, and Scaloni and his team inscribed their names in the football history books with the victory in what
is perhaps the best World Cup final,
" he said.
FIFA also relied on the statements of Lionel Messi, candidate to win The Best award for best footballer of the year, towards Scaloni's meticulous tactical work.
"He leaves nothing to chance. He shows you every detail and then it happens," the Argentine captain had said in Doha.
The Best awards will be delivered on February 27.
