Syrian students studying in Slovakia and members of the community organized a solidarity stand in front of the European Union building in the capital, Bratislava, today in solidarity with their homeland and to support campaigns to support those affected by the repercussions of the devastating earthquake, calling on the international community to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures and all kinds of pressures imposed on Syria.

A delegation of Syrian students, during their meeting with the representative of the European Commission in Slovakia, Andre Cali, delivered a letter on their behalf to the High Commission for Foreign Affairs and Security, in which they expressed the students and the Syrian community's condemnation of the international silence and the imposition of unilateral coercive measures and their repercussions on the lives of the Syrian people.

Dr. Ali Asaad, head of the Slovakia branch of the National Union of Syrian Students, confirmed in a statement to SANA’s correspondent in Prague that “the earthquake showed the true face of the West, which pays lip service to humanity, supporting afflicted peoples and providing them with relief in times of crisis, and proved that it is subject beyond any doubt to the subordination of the United States without will and independence.” , and he cannot separate politics from the human dimension,” stressing the importance of the community’s solidarity and students everywhere to confront the coercive measures and their effects on the lives of Syrian citizens.

In a similar statement, Artur Bekmatov, head of the Slovak Socialist Party participating in the solidarity stand, indicated that the unilateral sanctions and coercive measures imposed by the United States and the West are illegal and contrary to the Charter of the United Nations. constitutes a threat to global peace and security, calling on the international community to confront the countries that impose these measures, prevent them, and hold them accountable in the interest of international peace and security.

Bekmatov also called on the international community to lift all coercive measures imposed on Syria, to provide full support to the Syrian people without politicization and discrimination, and to strengthen the Syrian government's efforts to confront the repercussions of the earthquake.
