They do it in Avellaneda. His blueberry variety won an international gold medal.

Although

gin

is far from being a new drink, in recent years it has become a trend that cannot be missing in bars and restaurants.

The production of artisan beverages was one of the many branches of gastronomy that, by necessity, gained momentum during the

Covid-19 pandemic,

when businesses in the field were affected by isolation and many entrepreneurs had to find another path to follow. .

This is how the idea of Runa Craft Gin was born, a gin that began to take shape

in a house in Lanús

and shortly after was recognized by the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), one of the most important awards in the field.

This accolade obtained so quickly was the push for this boutique distillery to launch in search of new and broader horizons.

Today they have a factory in the

Avellaneda district

, advanced conversations to export their drinks to North America and Europe, and a World Cup edition among the three exclusive varieties they produce.

The pandemic left a significant economic crisis as a negative balance, in which hundreds of businesses were affected and had to close their doors due to the impossibility of maintaining expenses, making deliveries and changing the infrastructure of the premises to adapt to the new safety rules.

That, neither more nor less, happened to the gastronomic venture of

Gabriel Alonso and Federico Seoane,

who were forced to close their business.

They produce only three varieties.

In the center, the blueberry with the indication of the gold medal.

At that moment, Gabriel decided that it was time to venture into the spirits business, in which he had wanted to work for a long time.

That was how he

bought a still,

and began to study and practice in the garage of his house in Lanús.

After several tests, the entrepreneur obtained the desired result.

"We began to market it with very good results, we found out that there was a competition and we decided to sign up," says Federico, who is in charge of Runa's commercial area.

More than a thousand different brands from 86 countries participated in the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), and the results were better than expected:

98 points out of 100

in one of the most renowned competitions in the world.

With that rating, Runa

's blueberry gin

was awarded the Gold Outstanding Spirit medal.

“Many of the best-known and even international brands fell short of our score.

The medal went to our blueberry version.

As of today, there is no national gin that has obtained a higher award", say the manufacturers of Runa, who also assure that from this situation they have had several proposals to market their product internationally.

Winning the award gave them the dose of confidence they needed to understand that they were doing things right, and they decided to go ahead with the construction of a factory that is now installed in

Sarandí, Avellaneda.

Currently, Runa Craft Gin is sold massively and its owners plan to export to

Spain, the United States and Honduras

, among other places, where they are closing commercial agreements.

A failed venture due to Covid and ASPO.

A still.

Thus began the story.

“We do not change inputs or raw materials.

We use tridistilled cereal alcohol, which makes our product stand out from others.

We never change the essence of our gin”, they explain.

Production increases month by month with the aim of being in all parts of the country.

At the moment, they sell three products: the classic gin, which is London Dry, the award-winning blueberry gin, which is made with botanicals from Patagonia, and another with passion fruit and honey.

In addition, they launched a World Cup edition, of which they made only 3,000 bottles, with the Argentine flag on the front and the number 10 on the back, accompanied by the phrase:

“The ball does not stain”

.

With an alcohol content of 52º (10 more than the classic recipe) and the usual ingredients: dill, coriander, green olives, jasmine, fennel and cinnamon, as well as distilled water and cereal alcohol.

It was not that they got on the bandwagon of victory after the title in Qatar, but that they thought about it and did it before, with confidence in what the Argentine National Team could achieve.

“We wanted to do something special for the World Cup and we had good results.

We are very happy”, closes Seoane.
