A Latina teacher who had been reported missing on Monday was found dead in a shallow grave dug in a Jersey City (New Jersey) home, local authorities reported Wednesday.
The family of Luz Hernández, 33 years old and mother of three children, reported her missing in this city on the other side of the Hudson River in New York, after she did not go to work at the BelovED kindergarten and after not having had news of him over the weekend, according to the local NBC News station in New York.

Local authorities conducted a welfare check at a Jersey City home and, in the course of the investigation, located the body of a woman in what appeared to be a shallow dug grave, which was later identified as Hernandez's, according to reported Hudson County Attorney Esther Suarez.

The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, pending forensic evidence, but authorities said it is considered suspicious and the Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case.
“She was one of the best teachers, everyone loved her, all the children.
It's so hard to think about this.
We just want justice,” a cousin of Hernandez, who did not want to provide her name, told the NBC station in New York.

“We love her, her family, her friends.
She was an amazing woman and it's so unfair for someone to take the life of her.
Why?" she wondered.
The BelovED Charter School closed Wednesday so students and staff could mourn, according to NBC News.
