A Latina teacher who had been reported missing on Monday was found dead in a shallow grave dug in a Jersey City (New Jersey) home, local authorities reported Wednesday.

The family of Luz Hernández, 33 years old and mother of three children, reported her missing in this city on the other side of the Hudson River in New York, after she did not go to work at the BelovED kindergarten and after not having had news of him over the weekend, according to the local NBC News station in New York.

The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, pending forensic evidence, but authorities said it is considered suspicious and the Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case.

“She was one of the best teachers, everyone loved her, all the children.

It's so hard to think about this.

We just want justice,” a cousin of Hernandez, who did not want to provide her name, told the NBC station in New York.

Why?" she wondered.

The BelovED Charter School closed Wednesday so students and staff could mourn, according to NBC News.
