This was stated by the general director of Culture and Education in Buenos Aires, Alberto Sileoni, who assured that "there is a consensus that those who repeat do not learn more."

The Government of the province of Buenos Aires confirmed this Thursday that it is considering implementing changes in secondary school and

eliminating repetition for secondary school students

, although it assures that it will not be implemented this year.

"There is a consensus that those who repeat do not learn more in the year they repeat, so we have to make a different promotion regime. That is under study and we are going to deal with it," emphasized the general director of Culture and Education in Buenos Aires, Alberto Sileoni , who also responded to criticism from leaders of Together for Change in the face of this change.

"Something was announced that will not happen this year. We are going to dedicate ourselves to working with the schools, we are going to modify issues but not those that have to do with these things that have come out. Those are going to take more time, consensus with managers and teachers," he said in dialogue with AM 750.

And he pointed out: "We have been working throughout this year, we must modify what is called the academic regime, attendance, evaluation, repetition, we must modify study plans, subject contents."

At the same time, he responded harshly to questions from the opposition, who described the elimination of repetition as "another failure of Kirchnerism."

Cristian Ritondo, one of the opposition leaders who questioned the announcement the most.

"They always put us in the place of barbarism, that we are not interested in education, that we want them to go without learning. It is very shocking of those who destroyed education in Buenos Aires, who lowered the salary of teachers by 20%, who did not build schools and having borrowed 100 billion dollars, they did not invest in the educational system and took teachers as enemies," said Axel Kicillof's official.

As reported, the reform provides for fundamental changes to the evaluation mechanism for a student to pass the year.

The new norm contemplates the possibility of passing with many previous subjects.

However, all these changes that the management of the Province wants to implement must be approved by the General Directorate of Schools.

"What we want is to make a high school with more learning, it is not easier. No kid is going to leave high school without passing all the subjects, we think of something that is more rigorous, but also if we ask the kids for effort , what we have to do as a state is to invest more and that is part of this update," Sileoni emphasized.

In addition, he reiterated that nothing that is being studied is planned to be implemented as of March 1, when the 2023 school year begins.

The official maintained that there is a consensus in the educational community that repetition does not contribute to greater learning for those who repeat, for which reason they have to go to a different promotion regime.

"Also in those sectors most in need that need teacher reinforcement, because the middle classes hire a private teacher, but the most needy sectors do not have that possibility, it is an investment of billions because we want to generate more teachers who consolidate learning, contraturno classes, on Saturdays. It is not true that it will be easier, "he said.

Finally, he gave as an example countries in the region such as Uruguay and Paraguay that do not have repetition.

"There is no longer a discussion about whether repetition is good or bad, there is a consensus that it does not solve the problems, the point is how we get out of repetition. We believe with more effort, learning and more State behind," he concluded.
