Geneva-SANA

The regional spokeswoman for the International Committee of the Red Cross, Iman Trabelsi, called on the world to reconsider its approach to the humanitarian situation in Syria, and to find radical, long-term solutions to it, pointing to the negative effects of the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on the Syrian people, especially after the recent earthquake that hit Syria.

Trabelsi said in an interview with Sputnik: "Today we see that the most important thing, in addition to immediate needs such as food, water, health and saving the wounded, is that it is very important to look at matters from their roots, meaning that solutions must be radical."

Trabelsi explained that radical solutions by humanitarian actors can only be achieved if we have the ability to provide immediate relief aid, and we have the ability and ability to present long-term projects, especially at the level of protecting or rehabilitating basic infrastructure.

Trabelsi indicated that the recent earthquake catastrophe is an opportunity for the world to redirect its attention and look at the humanitarian situation in Syria, especially as we see that the sanctions mainly affect the Syrian citizens in terms of their inability to access the simplest services, and this was before the earthquake.

Trabelsi pointed out that the economic conditions, in addition to the Western sanctions, have led to additional problems for the Syrians, and this has also affected the ability of humanitarian actors to carry out relief and humanitarian work in the way they see fit.
