You don't have to be an ardent art lover to understand the value and visual importance of art.

For thousands of years it is one of the engines of the development of the human race and is a means of emotion and touching many.

Not surprisingly, at the beginning of 2023 when the field of home design is at its peak, many of us tend to incorporate art details as an integral part of the design concept and it contributes in its way to give the space a complete, sophisticated and multi-layered look.

Interior designer Paz Hasdai Tzipi Yaevtz-Chen sees art as a central tool for empowering the home: "Art can change the face of a space from end to end," explains Yaevtz-Chen, "it breathes life and reflects the character of the space and the personality of the people who live in the house. As planners we often work with Colors, materials, textures and lighting to create an atmosphere and adapt the space to different scenarios and art is completely another layer at our disposal that also has added value - art makes the space personal, unusual and experiential."

In order to combine it in the optimal way, we must choose works that we love and move and then examine the layouts of the space - the textures and colors that already exist and think about how these will emphasize the works of art."

The art itself can be a contrast to the elements in the room or alternatively complement the architectural features and enhance them: "An example of this is a photographic work by Ruthie Agassi that was taken on the square of the courthouse in Berlin that we incorporated into the apartment we designed," adds the designer.

"The work shows the image of the doors and windows of the court and it completes a kind of conceptual sequence on the wall of the fireplace on which it was hung, nearby the windows of the nearby towers are reflected. This is how a story is created."

Art is also an excellent tool for emphasizing lines of sight and depth: "In a house we designed in Jaffa for a former gallery owner, whose home space sometimes becomes a home gallery, we designed a wall near the front door for a large-scale work by Shai Azoulai," Yabetz-Chen shares.

"The eyes focus on her and only then move further inward.

Then, in the depths of space, we will reveal another creation.

The great work creates an atmosphere thanks to the layers and layers it entails."

"Another example is taken from another house, where we wanted to emphasize the depth of the axis that starts at the entrance and leads to the master bedroom. The colorful work, also by Shay Azoulai, colors the bedroom and as a result also the walls in the space. It draws the eye and draws attention to it."

According to the designers, art is an excellent way to bring the space to life and changing it from time to time can completely change the being of the house.

"We saw this happen in a tangible way in the apartment of the owner of the gallery, who has great collections. Once in a while all the works of art are replaced by others and it is fascinating to see how the atmosphere in the space also changes from end to end. However, we believe that the concept of "empty wall" is fundamentally wrong and in some cases the walls are filled in art is a wrong step. The goal is to emphasize the architectural and design motifs in the given space and precisely restraint and minimalism are correct in this case - even a single, high-quality and good work can change the face of the house. In a direct continuation, it should be remembered that art is a good financial investment and its budgeting should already be included In the initial planning phase. It's better to invest in one good piece once in a while instead of hanging a mass of mediocre works that likely won't add but actually detract from the overall look."

According to the two of them, art tells the story of time and place, therefore it is recommended to consider incorporating local art that has a deep connection to our being - be it political, social or environmental: "It makes it possible to tell a story from a unique perspective and reflect the experiences gained by the homeowners in their natural environment. Breathing It is important that the sources of inspiration match the desires and likes of the tenants - it is possible and recommended to combine new works alongside old ones and thus further emphasize the textures in the house and create interest."

And what about sizes?

Hasdai advises not to be afraid to combine different sizes of works: "There is a whole issue surrounding the right way to hang large works on the wall, but you have to remember that even a small work can be significant and powerful and serve as a kind of pearl on the big wall. Contrary to popular belief, there is no legality in hanging art - It's a matter of feeling and depends very much on the existence and proportions of the given space: how much depth there is in the space, how far the space allows to move back and observe the image or alternatively how close we have to get to see it."

It is recommended to hang the works at a similar height, with the top line of all of them the same: "The work should hang at eye level, that is, the center of the work is more or less 1.5 m above the floor. Of course, this does not apply to particularly large works, so the proportions are different. If the intention is to hang Several works in the same space. It is recommended that the connecting line be the color - it is the one that creates a composition. If you want to create an interesting wall, you can work with small works for which we will define a conceptual square within which they will be placed while maintaining the same distance between each other."
