Bornholm – At the end of September 2022, the two gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2 were severely damaged.

After the first investigations it was already clear: It was sabotage.

It has so far remained unclear who is responsible for the attack on the important energy infrastructure.

Russia has long been suspected of being the perpetrator - but there is no evidence of this so far.

Nord Stream: Investigative journalist blames the US

Now the renowned US investigative reporter Seymour Hersh has rekindled the discussion about the course of events with a report.

According to his research, the USA are said to have blown up the pipelines with the help of Norway.

US divers dived into the pipelines and planted explosive devices there in a top-secret mission ordered by the White House and planned by the CIA.

According to Hersh, the diving operation took place under the pretext of the NATO summer exercise called BALTOPS 22.

The attached explosives were then remotely detonated at the end of September.

Hersh cites a single anonymous source in his report.

Who is Seymour Hersh?

The American Seymour Hersh (85) is one of the most renowned investigative journalists.

Hersh has made a name for himself with numerous investigations into major political scandals and war crimes, including the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize.

In addition, in 2004 he exposed the torture practices at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, in which detainees were ill-treated by US military personnel, and published details of the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the US National Security Council, called Hersh's report "completely false and a complete fabrication." A CIA spokesman also said the claims were "completely and utterly false." also labeled as "false".

Nord Stream blast: Russia as the perpetrator "currently not verifiable"

But who was it now?

From the investigators' point of view, the investigations have so far not provided any evidence of Russia's authorship.

"It is currently not verifiable," said Attorney General Peter Frank of the

world on Sunday

.

The investigations are therefore ongoing.

With the support of two research ships, the federal prosecutor's office took water and soil samples as well as the remains of the pipelines at the respective explosion sites in the Danish and Swedish economic zones in the Baltic Sea and comprehensively documented the crime scene, said Frank.

“We are currently evaluating all of this forensically.

Sweden and Denmark are conducting their own investigations, but we are in contact.”
