EPP boss Weber does not want to rule out fighter jets for Ukraine

9.30 a.m .:

At today’s EU summit in Brussels it should also be about further help for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously asked for more weapons, including fighter jets, in talks with Chancellor Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The chairman of the conservative European People's Party does not want to block it categorically.

"I wouldn't rule out anything, at least at the moment, because that tends to play into Putin's hands," Weber told Norddeutscher Rundfunk.

Putin is forcing war on the West and is not ready for talks.

"That's why any support for Ukraine is also a contribution to ending the war as quickly as possible," Weber continued.

In the current phase of the war, the delivery of fighter jets is not an option, "but I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this could happen in further phases either."

Nouripour "irritated" by the hesitation of European partners in tanks

"I admit that in the last few weeks and months I have been a little irritated or even annoyed by some of Germany's close friends in Europe," Nouripour said on Deutschlandfunk.

In view of the Russian war of aggression, these countries pointed the finger at Germany loudly and clearly in order to divert attention from their own domestic political discussions.

He left open which countries the co-chairman of the Greens was referring to with his criticism.

After its decision to supply Leopard main battle tanks, the federal government is still waiting for further concrete participation from partner countries.

While there are already announcements for the Leopard model 2A4, the supply situation for the newer type 2A6 was initially thin.

Denmark and the Netherlands had agreed to participate in the delivery of refurbished Leopard 1A5s.
