While politics debates, Rosario bleeds to death: a new murder and shooting attack on a bank

2023-02-09T22:56:59.871Z

Perotti, Javkin and Aníbal Fernández cross statements and the drama continues to increase. Differences due to the number of gendarmes that arrived, which still did not work.

Security in Rosario is undergoing a sustained process of

degradation

.

Examples abound.

When the horror seems to reach a limit, a new case shakes society and makes everything seem even scarier.

That circular route has been going on for at least a decade.

Right now Justice is working on a shocking and unprecedented case, that of a street artist who had no connection to the crime, who a group of hitmen picked up in the street on February 1 and murdered to leave an atrocious message to their enemies, in front of the Newell's field.

While this reality escalates, Governor Omar Perotti, Mayor Pablo Javkin or the Minister of National Security, Aníbal Fernández, debate in a public counterpoint about the measures that could be appropriate to temper a lurid reality.

In recent days, in addition to the crime of the musician Lorenzo Altamirano (28), the chronicles that portray homicides have been repeated.

While these lines were being written, another murder became known

: a 57-year-old man was riddled with bullets in the Nuevo Alberdi area, in the north.

His body was found at the door of his modest home.

Police collected five served pods at the scene.

This Thursday they shot at a branch of Banco Santa Fe in Ayacucho 5055, in Rosario.

So there are 33 deaths in the first 40 days of the year.

Added to this are the attacks and shootings against departmental offices, unions, homes, public offices.

This Thursday it was the turn of a bank branch, in the southern zone and in the middle of the afternoon.

Everything has become a possible target.

Shots, blood and death are already a recurring postcard, especially in the neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city.

The usual, of course, has nothing normal.

It is not surprising that Perotti ordered on Wednesday the departure of his Security Minister, a retired police officer who held office for six months without anything improving.

Rubén Rimoldi crashed against reality, as happened to his predecessors, Marcelo Sain and Jorge Lagna.

On Wednesday they shot at the front of the Santa Teresa health center on 4400 Francia Avenue and Mayor Javkin had to suspend an act.

The change led to a public dispute between Perotti and Aníbal Fernández.

The governor claims support from the Nation.

On Thursday he said that the minister does not understand the reality that Rosario lives.

Although afflicted by a problem that worsened during his tenure, far from solving, the provincial president is taking care of the last letter: he has decided for the moment not to confront President Alberto Fernández, with whom, however,

he is no longer close

, as in the times of the presidential campaign.

In the last hours of confusion in the face of a new escalation of violence, an oiled method with which the gangs dispute the territory and generate anxiety, a curious fact appeared.

Aníbal Fernández confronted Perotti's demands by publishing on Twitter the detail of the gendarmes who collaborate in the patrolling of Rosario:

he spoke of

2,601 troops

.

Two days earlier, still in office,

Rimoldi reported to the Santa Fe Legislature that there were 530

.

A huge difference.

Whether there are 2,601 or 530, reality makes it clear that

they have not been effective enough

to stop the scourge of insecurity.

On Tuesday a woman was shot to death in Gálvez between Valparaíso and Rio Janeiro, in the western area of Rosario.

In the Great Rosario the historical record of crimes was broken last year: 288, one every thirty hours.

The rate was 22.01 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.

Four times

the

national average.

Among the victims, the number of minors and women rose significantly.

72.1% of the murders were related to illegal economies and criminal organizations.

That is, drug trafficking.

It is not all: in 2022, 868 injuries with a firearm were registered.

From 2010 to date there are

2,727 homicide victims in Greater Rosario

.

A fact that, although frightening, fails to measure the drama that these people and their environments experienced.

For a time, when progress was being made to dismember some of the most powerful organizations in the city –the Cantero clan (Los Monos) or Esteban Alvarado, just to cite two examples–, it was thought that the solution to the problem of insecurity was more next.

Time, and the freedom with which the detainees manage to continue ordering actions from the prison complexes where they are held, showed that this expectation was wrong.

On Monday a man on a bicycle shot at the front of a police station and the cars that were hijacked.

He escaped by pedaling and no one stopped him.

Some prosecutors estimate that

95% of the crimes suffered by the city are ordered from jail

.

Penitentiary intelligence is, to say the least, deficient.

There is a case investigated in recent days that exposes the obscenity of this operation: a prisoner in Coronda organized extortion against merchants who were given a CBU to deposit the money required so that they would not be attacked.

An intimidating and ridiculous call center.

It's not all, of course.

Police

corruption

, exposed for years in multiple cases, is deep and widespread.

If there is no collusion with criminal organizations, in many cases there is negligence.

An example is enough: on Monday a man shot at a police station in the west zone and fled.

He could not be caught, even though

he escaped by pedaling a bicycle

.

The drama has multiple sides.

There are neglected sectors co-opted by criminal organizations, but also powerful businessmen willing to participate in the circulation of money collected in dark and violent operations.

The judicial structure, especially the Federal one, is weakened and obsolete, and circulation in the black market of firearms is widespread.

It is easy to have a pistol or a revolver to attack.

In 89.2% of the crimes committed in 2022, this means was used.

"Rosario is, in some way, an experiment in the core of the criminal economy that

is going to be transferred to other parts

," Mayor Javkin

warned last May, in dialogue with

Clarín .

It is a scenario that some do not share.

Or they prefer not to see.

Far from being moderated, the drama spreads with a corrosive spirit.

While politics debates what to do, emboldened crime is ready to break new limits.

She demonstrated it in the last days and this same Thursday.

One more time.

Reality, thus, can only frighten.

Rosary beads.
