Nino de Angelo was addicted to cocaine for 30 long years.

In the meantime, the hit star has gotten off the drug.

Nevertheless, an emergency supply is still hidden in the forest.

Wertach – Musically, Nino de Angelo (59) may have celebrated his greatest successes in Schlager thanks to "Jenseits von Eden" (1983), but far away from the genre, the singer lived like a rock star at times.

The price he paid for it was high: the German-Italian was addicted for decades.

He can now speak openly about this dark chapter in his life.

Nino de Angelo talks about his addiction – hit star consumed cocaine for 30 years

Fame was a double-edged sword for Nino de Angelo: At the tender age of 21, the "Jenseits von Eden" singer landed his first (and only) number one hit, followed by eventful years in which the 59-year-old at times lost his footing.

Alcohol and cocaine addiction followed, and several marriages broke up.

In terms of health, too, the hit star repeatedly suffered setbacks: in 2009 he fell ill with the immune deficiency disease ITP, in 2016 he was diagnosed with the lung disease COPD.

It is probably a life like this that has purified the singer.

Although Nino de Angelo can still hand out eloquently, he seems quite reflected when he

talks about his addiction in an interview with

rtl.de : "Coke has ruled my life," said the enfant terrible of the German-language hit.

The drug accompanied him for 30 years – even though the 59-year-old knew that the drug was “very, very dangerous”.

"Beyond Eden" is actually called "Guardian Angel" - Nino de Angelo's biggest hit is a cover:

With "Jenseits von Eden" Nino de Angelo makes himself immortal in several respects: To this day, the hit is one of the best-selling hits since 1975 and even brought the singer international success.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland alone, the hit single took first place in the charts, and the English-language version ("Guardian Angel") even reached number 57 in the United Kingdom.

"Guardian Angel" is originally a song by Drafi Deutscher († 60), which he also published in 1983 under the pseudonym Masquerade.

Hitmaker Joachim Horn-Bernges (73) wrote a new text for the catchy melody of the number for Nino de Angelo.

But Nino de Angelo has renounced the white poison: he buried his last bit of cocaine in the forest, according to the pop singer.

For emergencies?

"If it came over me, I would know where it would be," he admits openly, but then explains: "But I think nature has decomposed it in the meantime." After all, consumption also influenced his psyche: without the substance he had not been able to feel euphoria.

What cocaine does to people in the worst case, the 59-year-old has already experienced in his own environment: "I have many friends who died from it." He also repeatedly said to his children: "Stay away from drugs - you See what that did to dad!" Nino de Angelo's ex-girlfriend is currently making headlines alongside another hit star: TV starlet Kate Merlan (35) moves in with "Always Again on Sundays" star Stefan Mross (47). flat share
