The Civil Guard has arrested for the second time in less than a week the alleged perpetrator of a fatal double hit-and-run in the Malaga town of Almayate (Vélez-Málaga) last Saturday.

The man was arrested that weekend after denouncing to the National Police that his car had been stolen and he had found it parked with a strong blow.

He was released with charges, but the Civil Guard arrested him again this morning for a crime of false denunciation, in addition to two others against road safety and for reckless homicide.

Early on Saturday, February 4, a man appeared at the Vélez-Málaga National Police station to report that the night before he had left his vehicle parked near his home and that the following day he had found it with a big hit in the front area.

The agents inspected the vehicle, which, to the surprise of the police officers, was parked in the same place where it had supposedly been stolen.

Its lock had no signs of having been forced and, however, the bodywork did show various damages and traces of blood.

That same morning, a team of toilets that was going to a notice put their colleagues from the 112 Andalusia Emergency service on alert after finding two lifeless bodies on the shoulder of the N-340 highway at the height of Almayate, Vélez district -Málaga with about 1,700 inhabitants.

They were those of a 73-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, both with signs of having been hit by a vehicle whose driver had fled.

The Civil Guard quickly linked both cases and arrested the owner of the vehicle for his alleged relationship with the deaths of the two people.

He was subjected to a drug test and another for alcohol, but both were negative.

He later he was released with charges.

The investigation has continued throughout the week and the agents have found new evidence linking this man to the double hit-and-run.

And they have arrested him again, this time, investigated for an alleged crime of simulation of a crime -for having filed an alleged false complaint- which is added to the previous ones for reckless homicide due to the hit-and-run and against road safety for having fled from the zone.

After being brought before the courts this Friday morning, the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 2 of Vélez-Málaga ordered his provisional release because the Prosecutor's Office has not requested his entry into prison, according to sources from the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA).

As a precautionary measure, the detainee must appear in court on the 2nd and 16th of each month.

The case has been left in the hands of the Court of Instance and Instruction number 1 of Vélez-Málaga, which will continue the investigation during the next few days.
