The autopsy indicates that the 33-year-old woman was beaten, strangled and buried in a shallow grave. The detainee may be the ex-partner of the victim that she tried to escape.

One person has been arrested in the investigation into the death of Luz Hernandez, a 33-year-old New Jersey nursery teacher who was reported missing Monday and found dead in a shallow grave dug at a Jersey City, New Jersey, home on Thursday, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said on the social network Twitter.

The authorities did not provide further details of the arrest, but the local NBC News station in New York indicated, citing police sources, that it is a man, Hernández's ex-partner;

He was captured, they said, in the Miami (Florida) area by federal marshals.

The investigators made public the results of Hernández's autopsy, which determined that the teacher died from blunt force trauma and neck compressions, according to the Prosecutor's Office, which had already classified the investigation as a homicide.

Fernandez's family, a mother of three, reported her missing in Jersey City, located across the Hudson River from New York, after she missed work at BelovED Kindergarten and had not heard from her for over the weekend, according to the local NBC News station in New Jersey.

Local authorities conducted a welfare check at a Jersey City home on Tuesday and located the body of a woman in what appeared to be a shallow-dug grave, which was later identified as Hernandez's, the Jersey City prosecutor said. Hudson, Esther Suárez.

Hernández's family said they were "heartbroken" by the news.

"We can't live without her, we can never fill this void," her sister, Jenny Taveras, told NBC News in New Jersey.

"She was a very good mother. She was kind, oh my God. She was a beautiful person. We are going to miss her so much. I can't speak, she's amazing," said her cousin Yajaira Germosen.
