Ambassador Khaddour stressed the need to demand the lifting of unjust sanctions on Syria through personalities and institutions that influence the American decision.
In turn, Cardinal Schönborn expressed his sympathy and sorrow for the victims of this devastating catastrophe, affirming his full support for Syria in its rightful demand to lift the unilateral sanctions imposed on it.
Cardinal Schönborn said that he "has always been praying for Syria and that he carries in his heart the best memories of his visit to several Syrian cities in late 2021," noting that he constantly calls for lifting sanctions on Syria through his channels in the US Congress and the European Parliament. .
Cardinal Schönborn said that he would speak with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg about the results of this humanitarian catastrophe and the need to take practical steps to mitigate its effects, noting that he would deliver the appeal made by Patriarch John X of the Greek Orthodox, Patriarch Aphrem II of the Syriac Orthodox, and Patriarch Joseph I of the Melkite Catholics.
