Speaker of the People's Assembly, Hamouda Sabbagh, appreciated the support of brotherly Iraq, the leadership, parliament, government and people, by Syria's side, especially during the ordeal it is currently going through as a result of the recent earthquake, noting that Iraq was one of the first countries to respond to the call of its brothers in Syria.
During his meeting today with First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Mohsen al-Mandalawi and the accompanying parliamentary delegation that arrived in Syria to offer condolences, Sabbagh pointed out the importance of the historical relations between the two brotherly countries, Syria and Iraq, indicating that Baghdad represents the strategic depth of Damascus, just as Damascus is the depth of Baghdad, and these visits come To consolidate the distinguished Syrian-Iraqi brotherhood relations, especially in light of these difficult circumstances that Syria is going through.
The President of the Council pointed out the lies of the American allegations that the sanctions against Syria do not include the humanitarian aspects, because the United States prevented the Syrian people from obtaining the necessary medicines and medical equipment, explaining that the psychological, diplomatic, political, cultural and health warfare targeted all aspects of life in Syria to destroy the morale of the Syrian people.
The head and members of the delegation pointed out the importance of the parliaments of friendly and brotherly countries demanding the lifting of the unjust siege imposed on Syria and an end to the so-called “Caesar Law,” stressing their support for the Syrian people and their willingness to provide the necessary support in all fields.
The delegation noted the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries and conveyed the condolences of the people, the Parliament and the Iraqi government to their brothers in Syria, wishing a speedy recovery for the wounded and expressing their confidence that the Syrians are able to overcome the ordeal their country is going through.
