Within the framework of mobilizing all possible efforts to confront the catastrophic effects of the devastating earthquake that Syria was exposed to, Syria's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Dr. Hassan Khaddour, met with Ghada Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office at Vienna, at the United Nations building in Vienna.

Ambassador Khaddour referred to the catastrophic results and repercussions of the areas hit by the devastating earthquake in Syria, in terms of the number of victims and wounded, and the destruction of infrastructure and service facilities, expressing his hope that the United Nations Office in Vienna would be able to provide quick and tangible support to alleviate the suffering of the people. Syrian in distress.

Ambassador Khaddour explained that the Syrian government's rapid response to this humanitarian catastrophe by harnessing all the energies of government institutions and trade unions was unable to face the damage caused by the earthquake, due to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, pointing out that these

The coercive measures prevented the import or repair of the remaining mechanisms needed to rescue those trapped under the rubble, and caused a major shortage in the food and medicine sectors, in addition to the large deficit in securing the electricity and fuel needed to aid and treat the wounded due to the theft by the Turkish and American occupations of the underground resources and agricultural crops in the areas they occupy. .

Ambassador Khadour informed the Executive Director-General of the United Nations Office that the Syrian government has launched an appeal to the United Nations, its member states, and international governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide assistance and support the efforts made by the Syrian government in facing this humanitarian catastrophe.

In turn, Wali affirmed her full readiness to cooperate in any field in which she can provide assistance to help the Syrian people in their ordeal, expressing her sincere condolences for the earthquake victims.

Wali explained that the United Nations office in Vienna does not have a fund to support humanitarian aid directly, and said that she "will communicate with the concerned offices in New York and urge them to provide all possible support."

Wali expressed her optimism about the news circulating regarding the suspension of sanctions on Syria, especially in this difficult period that it is going through, noting that there are logistical difficulties that impede the arrival of this aid, such as those related to transfers or the movement of ships.

Wally announced that Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, will launch, after hours, an appeal to lift sanctions on Syria and provide all facilities for the entry of aid to it, especially in the cities hit by the earthquake.
