China has expressed its concern over reports that the United States was behind the bombing of the Nord Stream pipeline, which transports Russian gas in the waters of Norway, calling on Washington to provide a clear response for its action.
"If the reports from American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh about the US involvement in the Nord Stream pipeline bombings are true, the United States owes the world a responsible explanation," Xinhua news agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning as saying at a press conference today.
Mao added, "Nord Stream gas pipelines are a vital cross-border infrastructure, and the explosions had a serious impact on the global energy market and the environment," indicating that this US action is unacceptable and must be answered.
The US Senator for the Republican Party, Mike Lee, said yesterday that it cannot be ruled out that the United States was behind the bombing of the Russian gas pipelines, the North Stream in the waters of Norway.
