After beating the pavement in December in Bordeaux, the Gironde wine sector met in a crisis unit to draw up a worrying observation: while 32% of winegrowers in difficulty have already diversified their operations and 300 others plan to do, they are 1372 out of 3880 to be in danger.

The report of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Gironde on the wine crisis, published Thursday, thus reveals that 10% of the latter are engaged in "

an amicable settlement, an ad hoc mandate or a collective procedure of recovery or even liquidation in court of law

”.

These threatened farms represent 35,000 of the 110,000 hectares of vines cultivated in the department.

Among them, 333 winegrowers, whose joint activities extend over 6400 hectares, wish to cease them entirely.

A figure to qualify because 98% of these winegrowers, who are on average 60 years old, have no buyers.

They are claiming a grubbing-up premium for all of their land before, for 66% of them, retiring.

The prefecture, which had commissioned this investigation conducted by the Gironde Chamber of Agriculture, underlines that the national measures announced by the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday concern the Bordeaux vineyards: "

a distillation campaign endowed with 160 million euros , the award-winning health uprooting and the extension of the state-guaranteed loan scheme

” will be allocated on a case-by-case basis by the end of 2023.
