Earthquake in Turkey and Syria: local authorities in Loire-Atlantique provide financial assistance

Now several local authorities in Loire-Atlantique are mobilizing to help the Turkish and Syrian peoples, affected by a powerful and devastating earthquake on February 6.

The first to react was the city of Saint-Nazaire.

Thursday morning, the mayor, David Samzun, announced his desire to vote at the next city council for a grant of €10,000.

A sum that will be paid to Cités unies France, an association supporting international solidarity between local authorities.

"In support of the bereaved Turkish and Syrian peoples, the city of Saint-Nazaire, through its financial contribution, wishes to take concrete action for the construction of a school, a hospital or even housing... Because, today, the time is for emergency relief management, tomorrow, these people will need us to rebuild their city

, ”said the city councilor in a press release.

Nantes Métropole: aid of €25,000

This Friday morning, it was the elected officials of Nantes Métropole who unanimously voted for emergency aid.

This amounts to €25,000.

The amount will come from the community's additional water budget to support on-site actions relating to water, hygiene and sanitation.

The money will be donated to the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (Acted), a French non-governmental organization which has had local teams in Turkey and Syria for more than ten years and whose actions are oriented towards the most vulnerable.

“In solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian populations, I wanted Nantes Métropole to mobilize, as part of international solidarity, by providing exceptional support to the Acted association”

For its part, the Loire-Atlantique department indicates this Friday afternoon that it will pay emergency aid of €30,000 to the Red Cross.
