Maryland police have been pursuing a 24-year-old suspect who shot and wounded two officers since Wednesday.

Maryland police are closing in on a 24-year-old man suspected of shooting a Baltimore County deputy before critically wounding a second deputy during a multi-day manhunt to apprehend him.

David Emory Linthicum has been on the run since Wednesday after initially shooting a Baltimore County deputy in an incident that sparked a manhunt and forced local residents to shelter-in-place, county authorities and police said.

The manhunt began after officers with the Baltimore County Police Department responded to reports of a person in crisis in Cockeysville, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Baltimore, around 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday. The Baltimore County Government reported in a statement.

When they arrived, a family member of the suspect escorted them to Linthicum, who shortly after discharged a firearm, according to county authorities.

A Baltimore County police officer was injured and was taken to an area hospital.

The officer was later released, Baltimore County Police Department Chief Dennis Delp said at a news conference Thursday.

A manhunt for the suspect was launched and during the search, a detective was seriously injured with multiple gunshot wounds after what Delp called a “very quick encounter” with an “individual we believe was involved in a police-involved shooting.”

He said the incident remained under investigation and did not provide further details.

It is still not clear what happened in the moments before the meeting.

He said the FBI and other authorities were involved in the search for the suspect.

Early Friday morning, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported that authorities had been able to locate the suspect in an area of ​​Fallston.

However, the suspect had not yet been arrested.

Residents of the affected areas had been asked to shelter in place on Wednesday while authorities searched for the suspect.

The shelter-in-place warning remained in effect Thursday as residents were asked to "remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings."

The closure of schools in the area was also announced.

County authorities described Linthicum as 5'7", 165 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and a beard.

It is believed that she was last wearing a pair of dark shorts and a short-sleeved dark shirt.
