The special prosecutor investigating the role of former President Donald Trum in the assault on the Capitol, as well as the discovery of classified documents at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, has summoned former Vice President Mike Pence to testify, NBC News reported this Thursday a source familiar with the case.
Special counsel Jack Smith was appointed in November by Attorney General Merrick Garland to lead the Justice Department's investigation of Trump.

It is unclear at this time what information Smith hopes to get from the former vice president

Spokesmen for the special counsel and for Pence declined to comment on the case.

The ABC News television network was the first to report Thursday that Pence had been subpoenaed to testify.
NBC News, sister network to Noticias Telemundo, reported in December that Smith subpoenaed local officials in key presidential election states, seeking communications related to Trump, his campaign and a host of aides and allies who collaborated in his effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
