The director of the Russian “Rosatom” company, Alexei Likhachev, expressed his country’s readiness to implement the initiative of the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, regarding declaring a safe area in the vicinity of the Zaporozhye plant.
The company said in a statement following talks held in the capital, Moscow, between Likhachev and Grossi, “Grosi talked about the progress made in his initiative to declare a nuclear and physical safe zone at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, and in this regard..Likhachev expressed the readiness of the Russian side to continue working on implementing the initiative of the general manager. to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River near the city of Energodar and is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of reactors, as it includes 6 reactors with a capacity of 1 gigawatt.
It is noteworthy that the station has been under the protection of the Russian army since last March, as the Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly confirmed that this step was justified to avoid the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials.
