The Ministry of Culture and the Syrian General Authority for Books mourned the writer and editor-in-chief of Al-Maarefa magazine, Nazim Muhanna, at the age of 63.
Writer Nazim Muhanna was born in the city of Jableh in 1960. He graduated from the University of Damascus, Department of Arabic Language, and was famous for writing the story, which occupied the largest share of his creations, despite his mastery of other literary genres, as he wrote poetry, novels, essays, and radio shows for children, but he considered the story an expressive art. He clings to it and prefers it to other literary arts.
His storytelling experience was considered one of the most important modern Syrian and Arab storytelling experiences, due to its tendency towards modernity, as he used to write and draw inspiration from ancient history.
His first story was published in 1979 in “Al Thaqafa” magazine, then he began publishing in Lebanese newspapers since the early eighties.
In 2016, he took over the editor-in-chief of the Syrian “Al-Maarefa” magazine, which was founded in 1962 and is considered one of the oldest and most important Arab cultural magazines.
He continued to edit it until the day of his death.
He published a number of collections of stories, including: The Ancient Land - Yellow Laughing Houses - Guardians of the World - The Kingdom of the Hills - and the book “New Babylon”, which consists of various articles on culture and literature, and two booklets on the late poets “Mamdouh Adwan” and “Muhammad Al-Maghout”. , within the “Creative Flags” series, issued by the Syrian General Organization for Books.
