The reference surgeon of Doctors Without Borders explains how several children under the age of two buried after the earthquake were able to survive

The first day of the earthquake we saw the rescue of Raghad, an 18-month-old baby.

Then we have seen Muhammed, two months old.

To Duru, three;

and Ayse, six.

Also a 15-month-old baby who survived in Kahramanmaras, the epicenter of the earthquake.

And to little Helen, who resisted for 68 hours under the rubble.

How have children so young trapped in the earthquake survived?

That is the question that Martín Sosa, reference surgeon for Doctors Without Borders, tries to answer in the video that accompanies this news item.

The ability to survive under rubble can vary greatly from person to person.

But in general, children and the elderly are more fragile, and it is more difficult for them to endure in these circumstances.

That is why the cases of the babies rescued after the earthquake are so striking.

And above all, that of the newborn rescued in the Syrian city of Jinderis stands out.

When they found her, her umbilical cord was still attached to her mother's corpse.

The doctors who treat her believe that she gave birth to her under the rubble before she died.

According to his calculations, he must have been born about 10 hours after the earthquake, which brought down the building as his pregnant mother and the rest of his family tried to flee.

In addition to the woman, her father and the girl's four brothers died.

Had she been born earlier, little her would not have survived.

Nor if it had taken another hour to find her.

Many other baby survivors of the earthquake have also lost their families.

They will grow like the faces of the miracles of the catastrophe.

But also like the orphans that the earthquake left without a family.
