Today, an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted Hualien County, on the eastern coast of the Chinese island of Taiwan.
And local media quoted the Seismology Center of the Taiwan Meteorological Bureau as saying: The tremor occurred 67.5 km south of Hualien Hall County, at a depth of 31.8 km from the surface of the earth, without reports of human injuries or material damage.
Taiwan is located near the junction of two tectonic plates in the South China Sea and is prone to frequent earthquakes.
