Today, several French cities witnessed a wave of strikes and demonstrations launched by trade unions, in protest against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to raise the retirement age.
According to Agence France-Presse, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across France on a fourth day of protests and demonstrations against the bill submitted by the government to amend the retirement system, and one of its most important provisions is to raise the retirement age to 64 years.
Laurent Berget, head of the reformist union (the French Democratic Confederation of Labor): This participation in strikes and protests constitutes a great success for the movement against this amendment.
Between 757 thousand and two million demonstrators participated in the demonstrations last Tuesday, while opinion polls revealed that most French people reject the essence of the reform that provides for raising the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 years, which the government affirms its determination to implement despite these widespread protests.
