Surrounded by the Río de la Plata and the tallest towers in the City, Puerto Madero is a traditional gastronomic pole that, although it was badly hit by the pandemic, is once again in force

and renewed with

multitarget restaurants, bars and cafeterias.

Since its inception -in the 90s- this neighborhood boasted attractive proposals to eat and drink.

But the public was mostly tourists and executives who worked in the nearby offices, so the restaurants were traditional and with a high ticket.

Over time, chains and other more popular fast food proposals were added that diversified the area.

Today Puerto Madero has

options for all tastes

and has recently incorporated new attractive restaurants for a public with classic tastes:

diners with good purchasing power and international tourism.

How the offer of restaurants and bars in Puerto Madero changed

The breweries: part of the informal face of Puerto Madero.

The pandemic prompted the change with the reduction in tourism

: many restaurants were forced to close and the environment -which had already been changing in previous years- changed radically.

Puerto Madero became an area that merchants described as 'ghost', without tourists, office workers or business event attendees, the classic visitors to its bars and restaurants.

But the arrival of the Covid-19 was not the only cause,

the construction of the Paseo del Bajo

-a work that took 28 months-

caused a great decrease in clients.

In addition, 4,000 parking spaces disappeared, a plus that restaurants lost.

Also, due to the opening of the Movistar Arena, the new stadium in Villa Crespo, the number of shows held at Luna Park decreased, which had an impact on the number of visitors to Puerto Madero.

El Dorado, a post-pandemic landing in Puerto Madero.

The situation caused the

definitive closure of great classics in the area such as Bahía Madero, Sottovoce, Le Grill and La Dorita.

Others had to move premises.

The latter is the case of La Parolaccia, which closed Casa Tua and moved to Olga Cossetini Street with Parolaccia Madero Downtown.

The post-pandemic brought more proposals for the young public.

In full confinement (December 2020) Osten appeared, inspired by Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby", this elegant restaurant with a high-end cocktail bar was recognized among the best in America for its impressive design.

Another milestone in the transformation of the area was the arrival of El Dorado at the end of 2021.

Germán Sitz and Pedro Peña's restaurant with ironic nods to the nineties on the menu and in the setting.

And of course, the breweries

with more informal proposals

multiplied

and specialty coffees with tempting pastry offerings.

But in recent months, restaurants aimed at the traditional public of the neighborhood have reopened: clients with classic tastes and high purchasing power and/or tourists who are seduced by proposals such as Madero Gol (Alicia Moreau de Justo 2092), a themed restaurant that pays tribute to to football passion is its setting and a museum with shirts and objects of former players.
