The National Police of Peru confirms that 7 troops died after being ambushed while traveling in a vehicle in the town of Natividad in Vraem.
"We regret the loss of our police brothers who have been ambushed when they were traveling in a police vehicle in the town of Natividad in #Vraem, where 7 officers have died and one police officer has survived," said the message posted on Twitter in which the police confirmed the news.
Peru is experiencing some of the worst acts of political violence in recent decades in the country since the removal of Pedro Castillo at the beginning of December.
The protesters who oppose the government of Dina Boluarte have continued in the streets since then, demanding a political change in the country.
Several dozen protesters have been killed since the start of the crisis.
