The new government does not violate the bill it gave to its voters: restoring security Israel today

2023-02-11T21:27:45.433Z

Not only is the government not improving the situation, but its steps are fewer and more limited than its predecessor, without charging a price for terrorism • There is no expansion of neighborhoods in Jerusalem, new construction plans in the Yosh, or deportation of terrorist families • What is there? Ben Gabir with reckless statements and Smotrich with honest statements expressing great frustration

"Once again, Jews were harmed only because they are Jews and on our watch," tweeted new MK Zvi Sukot. "It hurts. It hurts.

The responsibility is heavy and keeps me awake," added the chairman of his party, Bezalel Smotrich.

"It is clear to me that the steps I am saying here - are not enough," said the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gabir, before dropping the declarative bomb a few minutes later, about the "Defensive Wall 2" operation in Jerusalem.

These reactions of the leaders of the right to the terrible attack in Jerusalem - an attack in which many people were killed, the second in two weeks - reflect what they know very well.

The new government for which they fought and in which they hold senior positions, does not violate the main bill given to the voter: the return of security.

And not only is she not improving the situation, but her steps are fewer and more limited than her predecessor, whom they themselves attacked for "weakness".

At the peak of the terrorist attack season about a year ago, the Bent-Lapid government launched the "Breaking the Wave" operation, which in fact continues to this day.

This operation included activity against the terrorist centers in Jenin and Nablus and the reinforcement of forces along the seam line.

The previous government also brought peace to the Gaza Strip - an achievement that this government is announcing within a few weeks.

And what does this government do after 10 murders in two weeks?

A little.

Defense Minister Galant took the important action of confiscating funds from 87 terrorists and their families.

That, as of now, is the end of the matter.

There is no price to pay for terrorism.

There is no expansion of neighborhoods in Jerusalem.

There are no new construction plans in Yash. Of course there is no deportation of terrorist families, and plenty of other measures that the government officials committed to while in the opposition.

Ben Gvir in his rash statements, and Smotrich in his honest statements, express great frustration.

They know that their voters expect much, much more from them.

In fact, they themselves did not think that things would turn out this way, and there is no telling how long they will be able to continue with Netanyahu's embargo policy.

It was the frustration that caused Ben Gabir to declare an operation in Jerusalem "whose goal is to fight and root out terrorism, reach the terrorists' homes and stop terrorism before it arrives to carry out attacks."

But such an operation is not launched in a press release, but in a cabinet meeting where moves are coordinated with all the parties.

Because an operation includes not only security aspects but also occupational, social, transportation, environmental and other aspects.

300,000 people live in the Arab part of Jerusalem (the one mistakenly called the "East of the City" but which also includes the north and south) - a large city in itself, in Israeli terms. The Jerusalem Municipality, headed by Moshe Leon, is taking radical actions to improve the situation there. But it needs assistance.

For example, in the replacement of the Palestinian incitement books taught in the Arab schools in the city with those of the Israeli education system, in a significant governmental effort against the social networks to stop the anti-Semitic content on the part of the Palestinians and not only with continuous actions, and not just one-time actions, against the terrorist allowances that the Palestinian Authority transfers to the terrorists in Jerusalem and their families.

And of course in the collection of illegal weapons, which are scattered en masse in all the Arab concentrations in the country, including in Jerusalem.

Such actions, long-term, thorough and consistent, are the way to reduce the scope of terrorism in Jerusalem.

Because since 2015, the capital of Israel is not a safe place for Jews.

Terrorism strikes in rising and falling waves and the new government was elected to put an end to these waves - not to create waves in the media.
