The police said that they received a report from a passerby at about 5 pm yesterday, alleging that a man and a woman were suspected of selling and singing at a market on Shun Ning Road, Cheung Sha Wan. box.

After investigation, officers arrested a 39-year-old Mainland man surnamed Zhong and a 34-year-old Mainland woman surnamed Li holding a two-way permit, suspected of "begging for alms in public places."

During the operation, officers seized a microphone, a loudspeaker, a cardboard box and about 190 yuan in cash.

The two arrested men and women are currently being detained for investigation, and the case is being followed up by the Cheung Sha Wan Divisional Patrol Squad.

Under section 26A of the Summary Offenses Ordinance (Cap. 228), any person who begs or receives alms in a public place, street or waterway commits an offense and is liable on a first or second conviction to a fine of $500 and Imprisonment for one month; on third or subsequent conviction, to a fine of $500 and to imprisonment for 12 months.
