The Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle is the distinction that the Government of Mexico grants to foreigners to recognize "prominent services" or in correspondence with honors to which officials of the country are subjected.
"This award will be processed before the Ministry of Foreign Relations through a Council chaired by the Secretary of Foreign Relations, having as members the competent undersecretaries by geographical reason or by subject, and as secretary of the Council the general director established by the Regulations. According to this, the recognition is granted in the degree of collar to heads of state.
Other categories in which the decoration is granted are Band in Special Category (to heads of Government, crown princes, consorts of heads of State and persons with a category equivalent to these), Band (to ministers or secretaries of State, members of families royals, ambassadors or people with a category equivalent to these) and Plaque (to undersecretaries or vice-ministers of State, to

business managers , consuls general, brigadier generals, rear admirals, vice admirals, as well as those with a category equivalent to these).

"Foreign diplomats accredited in Mexico will only be granted the Order at the end of their mission, provided they have remained in the country for at least two continuous years," adds the Law.
The legislation indicates that the Council may confer it in special cases that it deems pertinent in its different grades, with the exception of Collar.
