New episode in the “Qatargate” saga.
The Belgian MEP, Marc Tarabella, 59, was charged and placed in pre-trial detention on Saturday in the Saint-Gilles prison in Brussels.
He is accused of corruption, money laundering and involvement in a criminal organization in connection with this corruption case involving alleged payments of money and gifts to European elected officials by Qatar and Morocco, in return for positions favorable to these two countries.
The Belgian MEP's parliamentary immunity was lifted on February 2, following a procedure carried out with a vengeance in the European Parliament.
Marc Tarabella, whose name has been cited since the start of this case, has always claimed his innocence and asked to be heard quickly by the courts.
