14 months in actual prison: the father of the terrorist from the attack in Bnei Brak was convicted of inciting and supporting a hostile organization | Israel today

The father of the terrorist from the attack in Bnei Brak that happened about a year ago, was convicted today (Sunday) of incitement and sentenced to 14 months in prison.

The defendant, Ahmed Khamarsha, was also convicted of supporting a hostile organization, after he supported the actions of his son who carried out a terrorist attack in Bnei Brak on March 29, 2022 - an attack in which five people were murdered.

Khamarsha gave a speech in support of his son's actions during a mass meeting which was filmed and recorded by a news channel and published on social media. In his words, the accused praised his son and the perpetrators of other attacks, and called for the continuation of a violent struggle in Israel.

With the filing of the indictment, the military prosecution asked to detain the accused until the end of the legal proceedings.

Today, the military court sentenced the defendant to a prison sentence to be actually served for a period of 14 months, a suspended prison sentence and a financial fine. 

"I killed him with my gun"

Khamarsha, 27 years old from the Palestinian village of Yavd in Samaria, arrived at the Jabotinsky-Herzl intersection in the city when he started shooting at a scooter rider who was passing by.

After failing to hit him, he continued to Bialik Street, where he shot to death Alexander and Dimitri, two foreign residents from Ukraine who were sitting at the entrance to the grocery store.

The terrorist continued on Bialik Street towards the Second Street, and at the intersection came across a vehicle driven by Yaakov Israel Shalom - and shot him to death.

Khamarsha continued on his way towards Herzl Street, where he ran into Rabbi Avishai Yehezkel who was walking down the street with his baby son who was in a stroller, and shot the Rabbi to death.

His son was not injured in the attack.

Khamarsha continued walking on Herzl Street, where he encountered policemen on motorcycles, including Sergeant Major Amir Khoury and Sergeant E., who were rushed to the scene of the incident.

He started shooting at them, at the same time that Sergeant E. shot at him and managed to kill him. Sergeant Hori was hit in the chest, and later died of his wounds.

The policeman who killed the terrorist, Sergeant Major E., said:

 "We received a shooting incident, as we arrived I noticed a terrorist aiming at us with an M16, he fired one bullet at my partner who fell.

We fought for a few seconds.

I killed him with my gun." 

The commissioner talked to him: "You are heroes!

Thanks to you, the lives of many citizens were saved tonight.

You and the late Amir quickly arrived at the event and demonstrated your pursuit of contact while bravely and professionally in a shootout against a terrorist who intended to massacre as many civilians as possible. I strengthen you and share in the sorrow for the fall of your partner in arms, the late Sergeant Major Amir."
