The Chinese ambassador to Damascus, Shi Hongwei, affirmed that Syria, which faced a long-term terrorist war and was struck by a devastating earthquake in the past few days, is facing a humanitarian crisis, and some concerned countries should abandon the obstinate geopolitical idea, lift the unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria immediately, and open the door for human rescue.

In a statement, a copy of which was received by SANA, Xi said, "China and Syria are good friends and partners, the feelings of their peoples are linked, their destinies are united, and they help each other," noting that after the great earthquake that hit the Chinese city of Wenchuan in 2008, Syria provided aid to China, and China is helping Syria. When faced with difficulties, this is the cooperation and responsibility between the two friends.

The Chinese ambassador expressed the condolences of the Chinese government and its people to the Syrian government and people in its affliction, stressing that the Chinese side activated the urgent humanitarian aid mechanism immediately, and decided to provide 30 million yuan of urgent aid, including cash aid worth two million dollars and the rescue supplies needed by the Syrian side. .

The Chinese ambassador indicated that the Chinese Red Cross Society announced the provision of 2 million dollars in cash assistance to the Syrian Red Crescent Society, and a first batch of medical aid reached 5,000 people, and a rescue team from the Chinese Red Cross Society also came, indicating that “in addition to the aid Monetary and material, the Chinese side will expedite the implementation of the food aid project in Syria, including 220 tons of wheat, which are currently on the way to Syria, and more than 3,000 tons of wheat and rice that will be sent to Syria during the current month.

He added: Chinese institutions and expatriate Chinese residing in Syria also take into account the conditions of the affected areas, and donate for the benefit of those affected by the earthquake. reconstruction as possible.

Xi praised the efforts made by the Syrian leadership, government and people to confront the repercussions of the earthquake in the affected areas, adding: "We are confident that under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian government and its people will overcome the effects of disasters and rebuild homes as soon as possible."

The ambassador affirmed the Chinese side's keenness to intensify coordination with all Syrian government agencies, in order to provide greater contributions in supporting Syria's efforts to mitigate the repercussions of the earthquake and help those affected.
