The police and the IDF thwarted one of the largest drug smuggling operations in recent years. Among the smuggled drugs were found 92 kg of cocaine and heroin, and another 28 kg of hashish. All of the seized drugs are worth more than NIS 50 million.
Last month, IDF forces conducted and the police a joint activity, focused on thwarting smuggling from the Egyptian border.
During the operation, IDF surveillance identified a suspect attempting to smuggle in the area south of the border. Upon receiving the alert, the forces began chasing the suspect with the help of vehicles and a helicopter of the police aerial formation. The pursuit came to an end in the Ramon Crater area, where the forces were able to arrest the suspect after he lost control control and overturned the vehicle he was driving.
