The Committee of Ministers for Legislative Matters today (Sunday) approved the "Deri Law 2" proposal, which was intended to requalify the appointment of Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri to the position of minister.

According to the proposal, which is signed by all members of the Knesset in the coalition and whose formula was revealed for the first time in Vala, the High Court or any court will not have the opportunity to interfere in the appointments of ministers in the government.

The Ministerial Committee on Legislation also approved MK Simcha Rotman's proposal for the superseding clause, according to which the Supreme Court will not be able to annul laws except with the composition of all the judges of the Supreme Court, provided that all the judges agreed that the law clearly contradicts a provision preserved in the Basic Law. According to the bill, If two Knessets in a row considered that this is a law "that should be placed above the provisions of the other basic laws and protected from judicial review", it will not be possible to repeal the law comprehensively except by a decision of the majority of Knesset members and it will be completely immune from judicial review.

The Speaker announced that the bill should be opposed. In an opinion written by the deputy, attorney Avital Sompolinski, she wrote that the approval of the bill means "the removal of the brakes from the government and the Knesset, and a serious violation of the balances and brakes included in the democratic regime in Israel. The meaning of the proposed arrangement is In fact, the destruction of constitutional judicial review, and a violation of core democratic principles of effective protection of human rights and fundamental principles. The bill will lead to the elimination of the possibility of conducting a constitutional judicial review. Its result is the removal of the brakes from the government and the Knesset, and a serious violation of the balances and brakes overall in the democratic regime system in Israel."
