What is known so far is that this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. a set of two-story duplexes exploded on Pedro Morán and Quevedo, where a Metrogas employee had arrived to answer a call about a possible gas leak.

After the event, Roberto Daniel Fratini (76)

was found dead

at the bottom of one of the houses, while the

operator José Chaile (34)

ended up with first and second degree burns on 30% of his body.

Chaile was admitted in critical condition at the nearby Zubizarreta Hospital.

In addition to the burns, he suffered multiple injuries.

He was later transferred to the Agote Sanatorium with reserved status, according to the City Ministry of Health.

Sources close to the patient indicate that he is

lucid and out of danger

.

Since his airways are not compromised, he does not require mechanical respiratory assistance.

The case was left in the hands of prosecutor Alejandro Foster of the Area of Flagrancy in the West Prosecutor Unit of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the City.

Until Sunday afternoon, there were no results of any expertise.

Meanwhile, Firefighters continued to work on the scene, using a line to cool places where high temperatures were detected in order to prevent or extinguish any possible flames.

Those who inhabit the neighboring houses withdrew between this Saturday and this Sunday.

This noon personal from the City Government helped them remove their belongings.

In addition to the source of the fire itself, the area is also uninhabitable due to the lack of gas and electricity for at least several more days.

To inspect the state of the facilities of these services, it still remains to remove the rubble and demolish what remains standing.

The causes: what is known so far

From the Metrogas company they did not give more details than those released in a statement on Saturday.

In that text, they remark that "the cause and origin of the explosion are still unknown."

And they maintain that "the operator had gone to the area due to a telephone call alerting him to a possible gas leak" and that the explosion occurred when the worker "was preparing to carry out the necessary maneuvers to establish the origin of the potential leak." Of gas".

Meanwhile,

residents of the neighborhood organize collections

through their groups on social networks.

“For now, no official has been present at the scene, that we know of.

From accounts of people who live nearby, we know that that morning there was a big power outage and an Edesur mailbox had caught fire right there, ”a neighbor of the neighborhood told this newspaper, who preferred to keep her name confidential.

“The Edesur crew left just in the morning.

Then the smell of gas began to be felt.

They called Metrogas, they told me it took a while to arrive.

When they were there, there was

an explosion in the gas cabinet,

”says this neighbor.

For its part, the Gas Industry Workers Union (STIGAS) published a text on its networks in which it remarked that Chaile's performance "was correct."

"At the time the explosion occurred, the colleague had just arrived at the address in question and was making preparations to begin his work," he highlights.

That is why the union maintains that Chaile

"did not take any action that could have been the cause of the incident

. "

And they clarify: "If our partner had been operating at the time of the explosion, his luck would have been different and he would not be recovering with his family as he is."
