Under the rubble of a building, rescuers found Halit Ali Talha, 21 days old, stuck with his mother who did not survive.

In bereaved Turkey, the infant is already called the “

miraculous baby

”.

Saturday morning, more than five days after the earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria, a 21-day-old baby was found alive under the rubble of a building near Antioch, in the province of Hatay.

While digging through the rubble of the collapsed building, the fire teams of the city of Kocaeli found little Halit Ali Talha, who had remained under the rubble for more than 128 hours.

His mother, found by his side, did not survive.

The images of the baby on a stretcher and boarding the ambulance sparked a wave of emotion in Turkey.

The firefighter who pulled the baby from the rubble himself testified to his great emotion with the Turkish media.

Praise be to the Lord for giving us such a moment!

“, he said on television.

"

The situation is dire, but when we have such miracles, we give thanks to God

."

The rescuer also explained that he tried, with his team, to extract the mother, before realizing that she was dead.

Now this child will be the child of our Turkey.

I hope we will raise it together

”.

Other infants pulled from the rubble

Faced with the scale of the human disaster, while the death toll rose to 30,000 on Sunday, the trick media widely relayed the rescues of newborns, symbols of hope.

In the same region of Antioch, a seven-month-old baby was also found 140 hours after the earthquake.

The cries of little Hamza heard under the rubble helped Turkish firefighters locate him.

Earlier, about 90 hours after the first of the earthquakes, a ten-day-old boy and his mother were pulled from a collapsed building in Hatay province.

The newborn, who appeared in numerous photographs wrapped in a thermal blanket, was also described as "

miraculous

" by local media.

In Syria too, the story of a pregnant mother who gave birth under the rubble in Jandairis, near the Turkish border, has aroused worldwide emotion.

If the woman did not survive, the child, a little girl still connected to her mother by the umbilical cord, was able to be extracted safe and sound by the Syrian White Helmets.

"

We heard a noise while we were digging (...) we cleared and found this little one, thank God

," a relative of the family who participated in the rescue told AFP.

The little body was covered with scratches and bruises, but the condition of the one who is now called "

the miracle of Jandairis

" is stable.
