Love in a box: the most valuable gifts for Valentine's Day | Israel today

2023-02-12T12:10:05.795Z

Valentine's Day is approaching, and couples are racking their brains over what they should buy each other. The Israeli consumer likes specific gifts, and we checked what the desired trends are, who buys more - men or women, and what worthwhile gifts and sales the stores offer

One of the essential questions asked by everyone who is in a relationship and knows that February 14, the date of Valentine's Day, is approaching, is what to buy the couple.

In the current era, with the cost of living, this question is extremely relevant.

But if you ask everyone, it doesn't matter what you buy - the main thing is the intention, and it is desirable that the intention be accompanied by an equal and special gift.

The price range is wide, as is the range of options.

According to data from the "Gentleman" chain, the average amount of investment on Valentine's Day is NIS 194, and men invest on average four times as much as women in the amount of gifts.

The deliberation time before a purchase is 2-5 minutes among men, and 5-10 minutes among women.

"Preparing for Valentine's Day is very challenging," says Yossi Cohen, CEO of "Zar for You". "It is a holiday in which the demand for roses and red tulips increases.

The winter was more difficult in terms of growing these flowers, but luckily we have our own area, through which we manage to reach large quantities."

Did you have any price increases this year?

"We have not raised prices, and we are not raising them despite the rising prices in the economy. Also, we are offering the same promotion as last year, according to which you get kava for 9 shekels with a purchase of 159 shekels or more. This way we manage to maintain a reasonable price level for the customer, especially during times Those, where the situation is more difficult and the expenses increase."

Cohen says that the average amount for a gift is 250 shekels, and that the male sex leads the way in shopping for the holiday: "With us, men buy more gifts on Valentine's Day. You can divide that into 65% men, and the rest women. Women make comparisons between websites and check more - Compared to men, who prefer to order and finish the story as quickly as possible."

Although many think that flowers are a gift that is a waste of money because they do not last forever, Cohen claims that they are one of the most loved gifts, and that the demand for them is only increasing.

"During the Corona period, people stayed at home and wanted to have greenery around them, flowers and pots. There is more awareness and a desire to have something alive at home."

At no point did you worry that the cost of living would hurt sales?

"Until now, in the last three months, the average of orders has not been affected. On Valentine's Day, we buy more expensive gifts. We are not satisfied with just arranging flowers, but also order chocolate and wine. With us, unlike the rest of the market, in November-January we feel that we are in a different place. True, it is impossible to compare with January of last year, but we have beautiful cycles, which surprised even me.

"I'm not afraid of Valentine's Day. Of Passover, on the other hand, I am - because last year the majority were in Israel, and this year many will fly. However, in the world of gifts and flowers, people are constantly looking for a reason to party, a reason to celebrate and a reason to send gifts."

And what is the Israeli consumer looking for when he is looking to buy a romantic gift?

Uri Goren, the VP of marketing of "Lalin", says that there is an increase in the search for gifts on Google as of February 6. "The Israeli consumer is looking for a comfortable life and likes ready-made boxes, which are starting to weaken the market and occupy more volume in the distribution of gift sales.

If in the past people wanted to build the case, today they trust our knowledge and want a pre-prepared case.

We have cases of NIS 100-300, and the average purchase is NIS 150-200.

According to a survey we did not long ago, 42% intend to buy a gift for Valentine's Day - 45% of men and 40% of women."

Who is considered the target audience that buys the most gifts on Valentine's Day?

"The main audience is 44-35 year olds who have started their life together and have a small child, and want to keep the romance going."

Goren also claims that the cost of living did not affect sales.

"People believe in romance, and that's good. They also invest in the budget. I think the amount of transactions has gone up a bit, and this may come as compensation for other things, but as mentioned - less invest in choice. In terms of prices, they haven't changed. We offer a sale that comes back every holiday, where You buy a bag for NIS 19.90 and all the products in the store are offered at a 50% discount."

Even on Valentine's Day this year, it seems that many will not give up a sweet gift.

According to Adi Sade, the manager of the "Max Brenner" brand, the pistachio still dominates the field of chocolates: "We also have chocolates with interesting additions, such as sea salt, white chocolate and pistachio, which is a very strong trend. Valentine's Day is a strong sales promoter, because chocolate There is a definite connection to love. We expect a 150-200% increase in sales compared to the other days of the year, and an increase in the amount of purchases compared to last year, when they spent between 200 and 250 shekels on a gift."

When do you buy more in general, on Valentine's Day or on Tue Bab?

"Valentine's Day is stronger than Tue Bab, and men buy more than women. The biggest holidays in terms of sales are Rosh Hashanah and Passover, but Valentine's Day is also strong."
