French cities witnessed mass demonstrations in which millions of people participated in all cities of the country for the fourth time in less than a month, in protest against a law submitted by the government to amend the retirement system.
And French media reported that the trade union (General Confederation of Labor) estimated the number of participants in the demonstrations at more than 2.5 million people, including 500 thousand in the capital, Paris, while the French Ministry of Interior announced the participation of 963 thousand people throughout France.
And the French police announced the arrest of ten people in Paris, while the authorities deployed ten thousand members of the security forces, including 4,500 in the capital, where incidents were recorded, including the burning of a car.
Participants in the Paris demonstration launched slogans denouncing the bill to amend the pension system that President Emmanuel Macron intends to pass, and they raised banners that read (We will not die at work).
The trade union leaders confirmed the call for two additional mobilization days on the 16th of February and the 7th of March, expressing their readiness to intensify the movement and // paralyze the country// if things remain as they are.
A similar protest movement last Tuesday witnessed the participation of about two million demonstrators.
It is noteworthy that the proposed bill proposes to amend the retirement age from 62 to 64 years, as the French government chose to extend the working period to address the financial deterioration of pension funds and the aging of the population, which was opposed by trade unions.
Opinion polls revealed that most French people reject the draft law, which forced the government to agree to some amendments without affecting the essence of the project.
