Our favorite hotels in Megève, a very chic resort in Haute-Savoie

2023-02-12T08:10:12.624Z

THE FIGARO SELECTION - A skier's chalet, a contemporary 5-star hotel or a luxury refuge facing the slopes: Megève has pretty perched addresses that all have in common the warmth of their welcome. Favorites tested by the editorial staff.

A farming town turned upscale ski resort.

We know the history of Megève.

In the 1920s, Baroness de Rothschild, dreaming of a French-style Saint-Moritz, dragged all the nobility of Europe in her wake to this corner of the Alps with a view of Mont Blanc.

From the agro-pastoral past there are now fifty-one active farms, twenty-five carriages still run by horse breeders and a few frontispieces, as well as twenty-eight hotels.

Here are our favorite addresses to enjoy the beautiful resort, authentic and elegant, nestled in the hollow of the Mont Blanc massif.

This happily outdated-looking establishment offers attractive rates for the elegant Haute-Savoie resort.

Opened in December 2021 in a former holiday residence, Mamie Megève is the second hotel of the owners of Arboisie, a four-star hotel on the heights of the village.

Located in the same district, this more family-friendly establishment has 60 rooms for two to four people.

A little too out of the way, but the hotel provides its guests with a free shuttle that takes you to the center or to the slopes of Mont d'Arbois.

The plus:

the rooms are all quite large (from 25 to 45 m²) and have balconies where you can enjoy a lovely view of Megève.

The price:

from €189 for two with breakfast, Mamie Megève has one of the cheapest prices in the resort.

Hôtel Cœur de Megève, urban chic

Megeve heart

The hotel could not be better located, in the middle of this Haute-Savoie village.

In the main street, it occupies a long facade covered with wooden tiles: on either side are its restaurant and bar.

It was run for a long time as a good father, with a regular clientele.

We must now forget the wooden benches, the old-fashioned decor and the Savoyard fondues that the half-boarders devoured after a day of skiing.

The new owners, the Kampfs, have given the hotel a fourth star, thanks to clean, seamless service, a spa, a restaurant open to the village and elegant rooms.

Prices followed this rise (33% more than in the former Cœur de Megève).

The plus:

the staff, largely local, seems to know the mountain and its surroundings.

And knows how to serve customers.

The price:

from €540 based on a double room (high season).

For its first Novotel in the Alps, the Accor group succumbed to the charms of the village of Megève.

Opened in January 2022 in the kingdom of 5 stars, the hotel plays the card of a real 4, and lives all year round.

In this brand new Domaine de Meztiva, next to the bus station, the hotel straddles the bustling cobbled streets located 2 minutes away on foot and the Palais Megève, "

the largest

indoor leisure complex in

the Alps

 ".

Too bad, we are not at the foot of the slopes.

To do this, take the Chamois gondolas across the ski village on the shoulder, or in a few minutes by private shuttle.

The plus:

one of the major assets of this hotel is therefore its partnership with the neighboring Palais Megève, which gives customers unlimited access to its 30,000 m2 of facilities: from the Olympic pool to the balneotherapy area (and its water at 34 °), via the ice rink, the climbing wall and the entire fitness area.

The price:

with a double room starting at €280 in high season and €150 in low season, it's very good value for money.

Four Seasons Hotel in Megève, ultra-luxury

Guided tour of the Four Seasons Hotel Megève

At Mont d'Arbois, the flagship hotel of the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage group offers exceptional services in a luxurious setting, a stone's throw from the slopes.

At an altitude of 1350 m, four plush and interconnected chalets follow one another to create a harmonious whole blending into the landscape and the garden planted with larches, spruces, pines, Tibetan cherry trees, Himalayan birches... The decoration is signed by Pierre -Yves Rochon, but the personal involvement of Ariane de Rothschild is obvious: everywhere, magnificent objects from his collections – such as the precious vases on display between the lobby and one of the restaurants – give the establishment a unique cachet .

We are here in the universe of chic hyper luxury, with the materials and the sense of detail that go with it.

And in the kitchen, Anne-Sophie Pic,

The plus:

it would rather, to save time, point out what there is not at the Four Seasons.

Nothing is missing: bar, two restaurants, a 900 m² spa with six treatment cabins including a VIP suite, hammam, sauna, gym, manicure, pedicure, two swimming pools including an outdoor one, hairdresser, shops, ski room, tire - almost private buttocks to gain momentum on the slopes, electric jet-ski on the snowy golf course, sled dogs...

The price:

with rates in season ranging from €1,450 to €16,000 per night, the very concept of “price quality” seems baroque.

We are in ultra-luxury.

This five-star hotel in the center of Megève, housed in a beautiful chalet split into two buildings, is part of the "Small Luxury Hotels of the World" collection, which lists nearly 500 independent boutique hotels around the world.

With two restaurants, a bar and a Clarins spa, it welcomes a family-oriented clientele who come to hit the slopes of the posh ski resort or just enjoy its "

winter wonderland

" atmosphere in the winter months.

The decorum should reassure you: wood, faux fur throws, fireplaces... Everything is there!

And the concierge takes care of everything: ski lessons, dog sledding and outings with the establishment's two horse-drawn carriages.

The plus:

the M is located five minutes from the "place-aux-calèches" (its real name, place de l'Eglise) and the start of the Chamois gondola.

An ideal location for strolling through the picturesque streets of the village, punctuated by old farmhouses that have become luxury boutiques.

To go out in the evening, after dinner, discover the nightlife and the new

places to be

for the trendy.

The price:

even for the chic Haute-Savoie resort, the rates at the M are very high.

If the night starts at €550 (with breakfast) out of season, in December or January, the bill easily passes the €1,500 mark.

Hotel Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois in Megève

Hotel Chalets du Mont d'Arbois

The Chalets du Mont d'Arbois are one of those hotels that have a soul and a history.

Nestled among the fir trees, away from the main road, the 5-star hotel cultivates a certain intimacy.

Less than two kilometers from Megève, it is close to the Mont d'Arbois gondola, which provides access to the Espace Évasion ski area and its 445 kilometers of slopes.

The three chalets house a total of 41 rooms and suites from 21 to 140 m².

All have been renovated in a luxurious traditional Savoyard style, favoring the interplay of textures, where just the right amount of modernity slips in.

In a refined style, which stands out from the atmosphere of the chalets, the spa houses a sauna with a view, a hammam, three treatment cabins but also a beautiful outdoor swimming pool (with balneotherapy), heated to 28° and indoors (with children's corner) .

The plus:

special mention for the breakfast, simply gargantuan.

The price:

count, depending on the season, between €520 and €1,470 per night for an entry-level room.

The Grand Hôtel du Soleil d'or, the oldest hotel in the elegant resort

Grand Hotel du Soleil d'Or

Go to slideshow (10)

Inaugurated in 1901, as evidenced by the year painted on the facade, it has had several owners and operators, including the tour operator Nouvelles Frontières.

After buying it in 2018, the Bordeaux group Millésime Collection gave this old hotel, the oldest in Megève, a full makeover.

Here it is like new.

And much more imposing than before with its original building now flanked by two extensions: on one side a new wing devoted to the common areas and on the other, three terraced houses of 200 m² (living room, four bedrooms and bathrooms). baths).

Called “chalets”, they benefit from all hotel services.

The plus:

the hotel is not ski-in ski-out but three house cars take you (and pick you up) from the outlying ski lifts of Jaillet, Mont-d'Arbois and Rochebrune.

The price:

with its rooms charged between €250 and €900, depending on the season and the category, and its “chalets” for eight people between €2,000 and €4,000 per night, we are in the 5-star prices of Megève .

Fireside Hotel

Guided tour of the hotel Au Coin du feu, in Megève

Go to slideshow (6)

Located just a five-minute walk from the heart of Megève, the hotel Au Coin du feu was bought nine years ago from the Sibuet group (Les Fermes de Marie) by an enthusiast from an old line of Saint-Gervais, Nicolas Grivet.

This doctor by training who became an independent hotelier did his best to restore all of its luster to this beautiful 1930s chalet by paying homage to Henry-Jacques Le Même, the historic builder of Megève – the third floor is even specially dedicated to him.

An establishment with impeccable service and singular charm in the posh resort of the Alps, popular with large hotel groups.

22 in number, double (15m²), family (26 or 37 m²) or suites (28 to 37 m²), the rooms all overlook the surrounding mountains, some of them even allowing you to contemplate Mont Blanc.

The plus:

the Coin du feu is an independent hotel with a relaxed atmosphere and neat decoration that resists in a resort taken over by groups and their standardized comfort.

The price:

with reasonable prices – from €280 for a standard room and up to €500 for a family suite in high season – the establishment allows you to enjoy Megève in optimal conditions.
